Mastering the Test of Time Barya: A Complete Walkthrough
What is Test of Time Barya?
Test of Time Barya is a Sekhemas Coin used to start the Trial of the Sekhemas by placing it on the Relic Altar at the trial’s entrance.
Sekhemas Coins modify the trial’s difficulty, rewards, and mechanics. Test of Time Barya grants specific boons that can ease the trial or improve rewards.
The trial is a multi-floor gauntlet culminating in a boss fight against Zarohk, the Temporal.
Accessing the Trial of the Sekhemas
Defeat Balbala, the Traitor:
Found in Traitor’s Passage in Act 2, Balbala is a fast, chaotic boss who uses poison and teleportation.
She is resistant to fire but vulnerable to cold, so freezing or slowing her is effective.
After defeating her, you obtain Balbala’s Barya, a key coin to access the trial.
Travel to the Trial Location:
Use the Desert Map waypoint to reach the Trial of the Sekhemas.
At the trial entrance, place Balbala’s Barya or Test of Time Barya on the Relic Altar to start.
Trial Structure and Mechanics
The trial consists of seven consecutive challenge rooms followed by a final boss chamber.
Each room has unique objectives such as defeating rare monsters, disabling crystals, activating levers, or surviving timed waves.
After completing each room, you choose the next challenge, rewards, and modifiers on a trial map.
Honour is a special resource acting as a life bar for the trial; taking damage reduces honour, and if it reaches zero, the trial fails and restarts.
Sacred Water is a currency gained in the trial used to activate fountains that restore honour or grant buffs.
Using Relics and Boons
Before starting, you can place relics on the altar alongside your Sekhemas Coin.
Relics grant boons such as increased honour, maximum health, or additional sacred water, helping you survive and progress.
Choose relics that complement your build and playstyle for the best advantage.
Tips for Success
Manage Honour Carefully: Avoid unnecessary damage to preserve honour. Use movement skills and dodge rolls to evade attacks.
Choose Challenges Wisely: Pick rooms that reward honour or keys to extend your run and unlock better rewards. Avoid curse rooms unless confident.
Use Boons Strategically: Select relics and boons that boost survivability and resource regeneration.
Learn Boss Patterns: The final boss, Zarohk, has complex attack patterns requiring precise timing and positioning. Study his moves to avoid heavy damage.
Restart Without Penalty: If you fail, you can restart the trial immediately without penalty when using Balbala’s Barya. Higher-level coins like Djinn Barya lock you out on failure.
Rewards and Progression
Completing the trial grants Ascendancy passive points essential for character progression.
Higher difficulty coins increase floors and rewards but require stronger builds.
The trial also yields unique loot, crafting materials, and currency.
By carefully preparing with the right relics, managing honour, selecting challenges that suit your build, and mastering boss mechanics, you can efficiently conquer the Trial of the Sekhemas using the Test of Time Barya and unlock powerful Ascendancy passives in Path of Exile 2.
